Two deductions between gross and take-home

In Thailand, your monthly salary has two things subtracted before it becomes take-home pay: Social Security Fund (SSO) contributions, and personal income tax (PIT), withheld progressively through the year. This calculator combines both into one monthly figure.

The wage ceiling just changed — a lot of calculators haven't caught up

For 30 years, from 1995 to 2025, Thailand's SSO wage ceiling was frozen at ฿15,000/month, capping the maximum contribution at ฿750. That changed on 1 January 2026: the ceiling rose to ฿17,500, pushing the maximum monthly contribution to ฿875 per side (employer and employee each). Further increases are scheduled for 2029 and 2032. If you're seeing "฿750" as the max contribution anywhere else, that's the old figure.

The rate itself stays at a flat 5% for both employer and employee, applied to wages between a floor of ฿1,650 and the new ฿17,500 ceiling.

What reduces your taxable income first

Before the bracket table applies, this calculator subtracts:

  • A standard 50% expense deduction, capped at ฿100,000 a year — automatic for employment income, no receipts needed
  • A ฿60,000 personal allowance, available to every taxpayer
  • Your annual SSO contributions, which are themselves tax-deductible

This doesn't include additional allowances you might qualify for — ฿60,000 for a non-earning spouse, ฿30,000 per child, life/health insurance premiums, or retirement fund contributions. If any of these apply to you, your actual tax will be lower than this estimate.

FAQ

Does this apply to foreign employees?

Yes — foreign employees working under a valid Thai work permit contribute to SSO on the same terms as Thai nationals, and are taxed on Thai-sourced income under the same PIT brackets once they meet tax residency (183+ days in a calendar year).

Why does my actual payslip show a different SSO amount?

A temporary relief measure cut the SSO rate to 3% from December 2025 to May 2026 in nine flood-affected southern provinces only — if your employer is registered there, your contribution may be lower than this calculator shows for that period.
