Three separate deductions, one payslip line
Malaysian payroll runs three statutory contributions side by side — EPF for retirement, SOCSO for workplace injury and invalidity protection, and EIS for unemployment support. They're often lumped together on a payslip, but each has its own rate, its own wage ceiling (or lack of one), and its own purpose.
EPF (KWSP) — no wage ceiling
The Employees Provident Fund is Malaysia's mandatory retirement savings scheme, governed by the EPF Act 1991. Unlike SOCSO and EIS, EPF has no wage ceiling — it applies to your full monthly salary, however high.

Since October 2025, EPF is also mandatory for eligible foreign workers, at a flat 2% employer and 2% employee — a much lower rate than the citizen/PR schedule above.
SOCSO and EIS — capped at RM6,000
SOCSO (PERKESO) and EIS both apply only up to a monthly wage ceiling of RM6,000 (raised from RM4,000 in October 2024) — earn more than that, and contributions are still calculated as if you earned exactly RM6,000.
SOCSO officially runs on a banded lookup table rather than a clean percentage, but the table works out very close to 1.75% employer + 0.5% employee for employees under 60 (Category 1, covering both Employment Injury and Invalidity). At 60 and above, only the Employment Injury scheme applies, and only the employer contributes, at roughly 1.25%.
EIS is simpler: a flat 0.2% employer + 0.2% employee, and it's restricted to Malaysian citizens and PRs under 60 — foreign workers don't contribute to EIS at all.
This calculator uses the percentage approximations most payroll tools rely on for SOCSO. PERKESO's actual banded table can differ by a few sen from a pure percentage calculation — close enough for planning, not exact enough for payroll filing.
FAQ
What about income tax (PCB)?
This calculator covers EPF, SOCSO and EIS only. PCB (Potongan Cukai Bulanan, the monthly tax deduction) depends on your tax reliefs and isn't included here.
Do foreign workers pay SOCSO?
Yes — foreign workers are covered under SOCSO (since a 2019 extension that added Invalidity coverage for them too), but they're excluded from EIS entirely.
